
Introduction to Membership
In order to uphold the dignity, standing and reputation of their profession, Members of SAANT are required to adhere to the SAANT Code of Ethics as detailed on Appendix 1 of the Constitution.
Membership Categories
Professional Member - fully qualified Nutritional Therapist holding a BSc in Nutritional Therapy or a BSc in Health Sciences plus a diploma in Nutritional Therapy, subject to a Training Checklist, subject to Continuing Professional Development, fully insured and on the SAANT Register of Practitioners. Please refer to the Professional Membership Requirements.
Provisional Member - a person holding a qualification in Nutritional Therapy, who began Nutritional Therapy training prior to January 2009, working towards attaining Professional Membership status, subject to Continuing Professional Development, fully insured and on the SAANT Register of Practitioners.
Associate Member - health care professional who has training in Nutritional Therapy but who does not qualify for or does not wish to apply for Professional Membership, and subscribes to the Aims and relevant Code of Ethics of the Association.
Student Member - any student enrolled on a nutrition course that has been recognised by the Association with the intent of becoming a Professional Member of the Association. Any student in clinical practice before graduation is a Licentiate of their own training provider who must take full responsibility for their students and their insurance status.
Affiliate Member - any person who does not qualify for any of the other categories of membership, but subscribes to the Aims and relevant Code of Ethics of the Association.
Honorary Member - a person who has made a considerable contribution to the Association as approved by the Council.
Please Note:
No person shall be admitted as a Member of the Association unless approved by the Council or its representatives consisting of the Membership Secretary and at least one other Executive Council Member who shall have full discretion as to the admission of any person.
When a candidate has been accepted, the Membership Secretary shall as soon as possible inform the candidate of such fact in writing and request payment of his / her first annual membership fee.
Upon payment of such first annual membership fee, an elected candidate shall become a Member of the Association, provided nevertheless that if payment is not made within two (2) calendar months after date of election, the Council may cancel such election.
Membership year is 1 January to 31 December.
